DONATING BREAST MILK IS AS IMPORTANT AS DONATING BLOOD

8/16/11- Do you or does someone you know have a surplus of breast milk that you would consider donating?  Increasingly, research finds that premature babies have dramatically lower rates of medical problems when they are nourished with human breast milk.  When their mothers cannot make enough, donor milk is critical, as illustrated in this recent news article.  Here in the Denver/Boulder area, the Mothers’ Milk Bank is an invaluable resource for women who are blessed with a surplus of their own milk and the heart to donate it, as well as for moms who are in need of milk for their babies.

We want to remind patients to minimize their sun exposure between 10am and 2pm, to use SPF-rated clothing and wide-brimmed hats while outdoors for prolonged periods (more than 20 minutes), and of course to use sunscreen to protect against skin cancer.

June 11, 2010: Study Finds High-Deductible/HSA Plans on the Rise

A New York Times article today outlined what’s in store for employer-sponsored health insurance this coming year and, not surprisingly, employers are seeking to shift costs to employees.  One way this is accomplished is through the promotion of high-deductible, low premium plans where the patient is responsible for the first $1000+ of medical expenditures, often with a tax-benefit (with HSAs).  My Family Doctor’s model is designed for patients who are paying out-of-pocket and need total transparency in medical costs and maximum value for their health care dollar. This is another nice article to help patients better understand high deductible health insurance and why it often ends up cutting costs.
