August 15, 2010: “Filling in the Insurance Gap for Adult Children”

June 11, 2010: Study Finds High-Deductible/HSA Plans on the Rise
A New York Times article today outlined what’s in store for employer-sponsored health insurance this coming year and, not surprisingly, employers are seeking to shift costs to employees. One way this is accomplished is through the promotion of high-deductible, low premium plans where the patient is responsible for the first $1000+ of medical expenditures, often with a tax-benefit (with HSAs). My Family Doctor’s model is designed for patients who are paying out-of-pocket and need total transparency in medical costs and maximum value for their health care dollar. This is another nice article to help patients better understand high deductible health insurance and why it often ends up cutting costs.

ATTENTION PARENTS OF SMALL CHILDREN: We wanted to make you aware of the voluntary recall by manufacturer, McNeil, of LIQUID BASED over-the-counter children’s medications, including Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl. There is a concern with the standardization of preparations such that McNeil is asking consumers to discard all unexpired liquid products manufactured in their facilities. We want to emphasize that there have been no reported adverse outcomes, and that this is a precautionary measure that McNeil is taking in cooperation with the FDA.
My Family Doctor urges parents to feel confident that generic brands of these medications, as well as solids like Meltaways and Chewables, are safe to treat your child’s aches, pains, and fevers. For more information, please visit:
